Proud Premier praises concert performers

Premier Alex Scott was short on words when he described his recent concert.?Every adjective I could think of would fall short of really describing the experience that I, parents and invited guests had,? said the Premier of the concert, which took place on November 27.

Premier Alex Scott was short on words when he described his recent concert.

?Every adjective I could think of would fall short of really describing the experience that I, parents and invited guests had,? said the Premier of the concert, which took place on November 27.

?I told the audience when I had an opportunity to make a few comments that we had not continued with the Premier?s Concert in 2003 when we came in because we wanted a little time to get it right. And we didn?t do it last year because we wanted more time to get it right.

?But we did it last Saturday and we feel that the applause told us that we got it right. The young people were excellent.

?It was one of those occasions when you had a tremendous sense of pride and I pointed out to the audience that our little country was in safe hands with this type of talent available to us and I sit here filled with pride... and through their preparation was their success.?

There were a wide range of acts at the concert which took place at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts.

?It was extraordinary,? Premier Scott said.

?There were violinists and one young lady just excelled herself and her name was Leidy Sinclair, 12, and she played as good as any master.

?A little Leron Minors who played the saxophone and he brought me to my feet and I thought that he was exceptional. It is dangerous to point fingers because they were all good.

?There are quite a few dance groups and dancers and one in particular was the In Motion School of Dance.

?The choreographer was Jennifer Soares, director was Lizz Pimentel and the three extraordinary dancers were Tyler Barker, Karissa Roberts and Courtney Lopes.

?And even as I single these folks out, it just means that others were equally impressive, but these folks at least caught my eye as being as professional as any would have expected, not only for their age, but on stage here or elsewhere.

?I felt like a proud father of the country at that time and these are the occasions when you are literally honoured to be the Premier of such a talented and most capable community.?

The Premier said Heather Whalen and Ruth Thomas of the Department of Community Affairs worked diligently on the concert and were already planning the next one.

Robert Horton, Permanent Secretary for Labour, Home Affairs and Public Safety, was one of the hosts during the concert.

?I felt most honoured upon being asked to co-host the Premier?s Concert 2005,? he said.
