Regiment Band off to Germany in 2005

Hard on the heels of its successful appearance in last year's Edinburgh Tattoo, the band of the Bermuda Regiment has now been invited to participate in the fortieth 'Musikschau der Nationen' (International Music Show of the Nations), a military tattoo in Bremen, Germany in January, 2005.

The popular, two-day event is the largest indoor brass band and folklore event in Europe. It features performers from more than 70 nations, and attracts an estimated total of 35,000 spectators. A further six million plus viewers watch it on television throughout Europe.

As a preamble to the tattoo, Bermudian company Panatel will work with German television station ARD TV to produce the promotional film of Bermuda and the Regiment.

The concept of including the Bermuda Regiment Band in the Bremen tattoo came to Panatel VDS Ltd. vice-president Reimar Fiedler while he was working on this international project in his native Germany.

He provided his company's footage of the Beat Retreat ceremonies on Front Street and Dockyard to ARD TV producer Guenther Saalbach, who also produces the European television feed of the tattoo, who was duly impressed.

As a result, CEO of Panatel VDS Ltd., Wendy Fiedler, has been instrumental in working with the Bermuda Regiment Band's director of music, Major Barrett Dill, and the Musikschau der Nationen Committee to successfully secure an invitation for the Band to participate in the Bremen spectacle and once again showcase the culture of Bermuda on the world stage. Airfares and accommodation will be financed by the tattoo organisers.
