He's back!

Bermudian pianist James Richardson, who thrilled audiences with his solo concert at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for the Performing Arts last summer, will perform again, but in an expanded programme which will also include choreography, tap dancing, comedy, fashion, a ten-piece band and six vocalists.

Appropriately entitled 'SoulFire 2002', the event will feature all-Bermudian talent. Taitu Wilson is designing the choreography; fashion designers Lincoln Raynor and Amethyst will show their men's and women's collections respectively; the inimitable Nadanja Bailey will both emcee the event and do a comedy routine, and Mitchell Trott will tap dance.

The second half of the programme will include mostly original music by Mr. Richardson, which will be performed by himself on keyboards, the band and vocalists.

"It is a high energy show which is going to be fabulous, inspiring, and moving," Mr. Richardson, who is producing the show, promises. "The programme will have something for everyone - reggae, jazz, soul, funk - as well as special effects, and there will also be some surprises."

Lighting will be by Richard Lathan, while Spanish Town will be in charge of sound, and Panatel will film the show so that Mr. Richardson can "show it around Europe". A CD will also be made.

"There is a market for Bermudians' work, not just here but abroad," the pianist says. "I have recently returned from Paris and in fashion and music Bermudians can compete. What they lack, however, is the vision to try something new."

Tickets (patrons $75, others $50) for 'Soul Fire 2002' are now on sale at Music World, 27th Century Boutique and Music Box in Hamilton and Caesar's Pharmacy in Somerset. Patrons' tickets include a pre-performance cocktail party, preferred seats, a CD of the concert when released, and free delivery of the tickets. To order these the SoulFire hotline at 291-2117. Further information is also available on the website www.playingjames.com under 'tour dates and events'.

Part proceeds from the event will be given to the registered charity, Hands of Love.
