The Bermuda Civic Ballet has announced the names of its instructors the annual Summer School.
In a departure from the usual, this year the Bermuda Civic Ballet will offer courses in both classical ballet and modern dance. Classes will be held at the Pembroke Sunday School.
Alexei Fateyev will be teaching classical ballet, and Brian Flynn and Marianna Tsartolia will be teaching modern dance.
Mr. Fateyev started his ballet career in Voronej, Russia, where he performed with the Ballet Theatre and in Moscow.
Director of the Bermuda Civic Ballet Coral Waddell said he was the Grand Prize winner at the Hamburg Festival in 1991. ?Now a resident of Toronto, Alexei has many dancing and acting credits from around the world,? she said.
?He presently teaches around the city and in New York and has his own company to keep his Russian dance and music alive.?
Mr. Flynn and Ms Tsartolia are from the Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre (PRDT), in New York.
?Brian is a graduate of Purchase College,? she said, ?And has also performed with Boston Ballet.
?He has performed works of many choreographers and joined Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre in 1999.
?Mariannna was born in Athens, Greece, and graduated with her Bachelors in Fine Arts from the State School of Dance.
?In 1997 she graduated from the Merce Cuningham Dance Studio with both the Onassis Foundation and the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation scholarships. She has performed in both the US and Europe and joined PRDT in 1998.
?Both dancers have taught in residencies and our students are sure to benefit from their guidance.?
Mrs. Waddell said the Summer School runs from June 27 to August 5, and culminates in Summer Selections 2005, when two performances will be put on by the students of the School in the City Hall Theatre on August 4 and 5.
?In addition, the Bermuda Civic Ballet is pleased to advise that two dancers from the National Ballet of Canada, Ji-Won Kim and Brent Parolin, will perform in Summer Selections.?
