Sia brings the house down in solo show
?Holla at your gurl? and ?it?s Crack-a-lackin? were some of Sia?s sayings while keeping it real during her opening night performance at the City Hall Theatre.
The production brought the house down, while being thought provoking as well.
The play was due to start last week, but due to the power outages it was postponed and began on Thursday night.
THE Company production of Sia Says: ?A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste? was written by Patricia Nesbitt and the ghetto-fabulous character of Sia was played by Nishanthi Bailey, in the one-woman show.
With humour, song and dance, she took the audience through life?s byways and alleyways, and cast a light on a host of social issues that people either ignore or simply are not aware of.
The show is based around a week in Sia?s World and on the Sunday, she was the Bedside Baptist, gospel music, clapping et al.
She said, the ?Ch? in Church was for change, the ?ur? was for who are you, and the other ?ch? was for cheeze.
During her time as the Bedside Baptist she emphasised the need for the world?s religions and different sects of Christianity to live in harmony and she brought up a very important point that because someone did not go to your church, they were not going to hell.
On Monday, Sia had her Boo-tay Workout, where she invited a few unsuspecting audience members up for a little cleaning dance.
According to Sia, everyone needs to do the Boo-tay dance and how long it will take, she says ?depends on how dirty your house is?.
Sia?s Sister Rap in Four: Style and ?tude; Men; Disease; and Love and Sexiness, happened on Tuesday.
Within this act she talked about dress sense, men and gold-diggers who were digging for ?gold? they didn?t have to pan for either, sexually transmitted diseases and the spread of AIDS without actually spelling it out, and women becoming baby factories of children they could ill afford.
Sia?s Beau-tay Tips was Wednesday?s monologue, on Thursday there was Brats and Books, in which she talked about the importance of reading and that ?a mind is a terrible thing to waste?.
Friday?s act was all about Show Me de Dough where Sia dreamed about becoming a music star. And during the Saturday act she launched her CD/DVD Give Dem De Tease.
All in all it was a fun night and a spectacular performance by someone so young.
And yes, Sia really does have something to say.
The only thing that one can complain about is that it closes tonight.
