Solo recital by organist at St. Theresa?s on Sunday

Organist Diane Bish will be on the Island this weekend for a concert in aid of the St. Theresa?s Cathedral organ fund.

Ms Bish is a concert and recording artist, composer, conductor and international television personality, and she has displayed her dazzling virtuosity and unique showmanship the world over.

Her performances have been hailed by critics as stunning, virtuoso, fiery, and astonishing.

Through numerous recordings, concerts and weekly television appearances, Ms Bish is one of the most visible American organists today.

The concert is being held on Sunday evening at the St. Theresa?s Cathedral under the distinguished patronage of Bishop Robert Kurtz.

Promoter Eddie DeMello said she would be playing a solo recital.

He said she will be playing ?Prelude and Fugue in G Minor?, by Dietrich Buxtehude, ?The Five Flute Clocks?, by Joseph Haydn, ?Toccata in F Major?, by Johann Sebastian Bach, ?Bolero de Concertm? by Lefebure Wely among many more.

Mr. DeMello said: ?Diane is perhaps best known through the international television series, ?The Joy of Music?, in which she combines exhilarating organ and ensemble performances with an informative, inspirational narrative and exciting world travel.

?In 15 years, over 350 programmes have been taped in famous cathedrals and concert halls on the organs of the world. In 1989, Ms Bish was awarded the National Citation by the National Federation of Music Clubs of America for distinguished service the musical, artistic, and cultural life of the nation, considered to be the Federation?s highest honour.

?She shares this rare distinction with such legends as Leonard Bernstein, Eugene Ormandy, Van Cliburn, Robert Shaw, Irving Berlin and Fred Waring,? Mr. DeMello said.

The concert takes place at the St. Theresa?s Cathedral on Sunday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $200 for patrons and $100 for non-patrons.
