Squid expert to speak at BUEI
A marine and deep-sea biologist and world-renowned expert on squids, including the mysterious giant squid, will be a guest speaker at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on June 15.
Dr. Clyde Roper will deliver a presentation about the mysterious sea monster that inhabits the ocean depths.
His talk will uncover some of the mystery which surrounds this creature and will include images from his expeditions in search of this elusive animal.
On Thursday night, Dr. Roper will be giving a second lecture entitled "Quick Change ? Artists of Coral Reef Communities, the Lethal Game of Hide and Seek".
This lecture will provide a close-up look at the most brilliantly colourful and most heavily populated of all ecosystems on Earth ? the Coral Reef. Dr. Roper will show footage of some of the many marine animals in these shallow, well-lit waters, like those around Bermuda, which are able to instantly change skin colour, colour patterns and skin sculpture in their constant struggle for survival in the fearsome zone of "eat or be eaten".
The lectures start at 7 p.m. each of the two nights and BUEI can be contacted at 297-7314 for more details.
