Students arrange grub day to assist fight against cancer
CedarBridge Academy students raised $400 from a ?grub day? aimed at helping The Bermuda TB Cancer & Health Association?s fight against cancer.
Enterprising students Natasha Medeiros, Shalini Tuckett, Ronald Burchall and Shayne Furbert were moved by a loved one suffering from ovarian cancer and decided to organise the event with the help of Mark Essay and Nadia Tuckett. The students requested that the donation be used to educate women in the community about cervical and ovarian cancer.
Pauline Girling, spokesperson for TB Cancer and Health was very impressed with the students calling them ?responsible citizens?.
She said the association planned to used the proceeds to buy books and information videos on ovarian and cervical cancer, which will be freely available at the Cancer Resource Centre.
?Patient education can go a long way towards easing the anxieties of loved ones who may be involved or just starting treatment for ovarian or cervical cancer,? she said.
CedarBridge principal Kalmar Richards was very pleased with the initiative taken by her students. ?I?m very proud of my students,? she said.
