Teen film camp promises to be a ?reel? success

The Bermuda International Film Festival has teamed up with film professor Vicky Zabriskie to offer eight weeks of summer film camps for seven-16-year olds.

Ms. Zabriskie taught at Florida State University, recently rated by the Directors Guild of America as having the top film programme in the United States. She has worked on more than 100 films in all capacities.

The camps will be held at Old Colony Club, Trott Road, Hamilton, between July 4 and September 2, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. There will be an option to extend participation until 5 p.m. daily.

Stage One camps for kids 7-9 will be held July 18-22 (acting), August 8-12 (animation) and August 22-26 (special effects).

Stage Two camps for children aged ten-13 will be held from August 15-19 (camera) and August 29-September 2 (screenwriting).

A Stage Three Boot Camp for teenagers 14-16 will be held weekdays from July 4-15. Each student will make his or her film during the ten-day camp.

"Stage one camps are suitable for kids who want to get their feet wet with the basics of film production," Ms. Zabriskie says. "The stage two camps are more comprehensive, culminating in a collaborative final student film. Stage three gives the teenagers experience of a real film set." Participation in the Stage One and Stage Two camps is limited to 16 participants, while the Stage Three Boot Camp will accept 10 participants.

The camps are priced at $250 per week. For more information, or to register for the camps, please contact the festival at infobiff.bm
