Three artists featured in 'Silhouettes and Shadows'
The Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard's latest juried exhibition, 'Silhouettes and Shadows', is currently underway, and includes three featured artists: Vaughan and Amy Evans, and Lee Finch. is exhibiting self-portraits in black and white woodcuts, so chosen because he says those colours limit his instinct to "say too much" in his work.
"My artwork is created somewhere between being in a dreamlike state when I am half awake to the struggle of trying to express something of what I have experienced and spent many hours drawing and painting. In the end the medium that you choose to work in helps you formulate your language and process thinking. This is why I am presently choosing to work with woodcuts. It is a slow and deliberate process," he says.is exhibiting both watercolour and mixed media paintings of subjects seen in her travels, and says that, as an artist, the inspiration for her work "comes from many sources".
Now that she is able to travel extensively with her husband, one of the subjects that particularly captures her interest is architecture ? the varied details on buildings, their colours, textures and proportions, which vary by country. Both Mr. and Mrs. Evans are professional artists.is exhibiting work that is a combination of printmaking and photographic techniques. He has produced a series of large-scale photograms (photographic images created without a camera), the subject matter of which includes natural and manmade objects such as a tree, a scooter, and the human form.
Mr. Finch studied art in Bradford, England where his specialist area was fine art printmaking and photography. In Britain he worked both as an artist and an art teacher, held numerous exhibitions, and ran various photographic workshops.
'Silhouettes and Shadows' continues through June 4. For further information see the Bermuda Calendar.
