'Turn that thing off, you are here to relax!'
There are very few moments in one's life ? or at least in my life ? when I can say that I have truly relaxed.
But when I walked into the Willow Stream Spa with my hand-held voice recorder, I was ready for a good story ? I had not reached the relaxation stage of things.
But I was quickly alerted as to why I was there when spa manager Susan LeStrange told me: "Turn that thing off, electronic devices are not allowed in the Spa."
Then continuing the chide, she asked: "Do you have a mobile phone?"
And being a journalist I of course had one and admitted it, and she said, "Turn it off, you are here to relax!" Well, I didn't get that one on tape.
But after walking past the gym and the Salon we entered the female changing rooms where I was guided to a locker.
After getting dressed in my gown and shower slippers I began to feel the effects of the scents from the wafting candles and also the music that seemed to be played by one relaxed finger that was tapping each key on the piano in slow motion.
The relaxation room was beautifully decorated with old and modern styles mingling in unison.
Interestingly shaped glass fountains held refreshing fruit waters to quench any heated moment.
Ms LeStrange led me into the couples waiting area where I was met by lead body technician Shelley Fortnum, who was to be my massage therapist for the afternoon. I was having the Total Body Adjustment hmmmm.....
Ms Fortnum began the treatment by explaining in relaxed tones exactly what was about to happen to me before each stage took place.
She soaked my feet in a tea, before choosing the seasonal product from the Tara Ayurveda line.
I took a quick personality test, which detailed whether I was Vata (ether and air), Pitta (a fire and water personality) or a Kapha (a water and earth type).
Before leaving to get the foot tea, Ms Fortnum correctly suggested that I was a Kapha. After ticking the little circles on the questionnaire about memory, speech, sleep, dreams, elimination, imbalance tendencies, physical frame, body weight and emotional temperament ? it was revealed that I was predominantly a Kapha personality.
Now, I couldn't tell you what this really meant, but I was willing to have a go at just about anything as they led me to the foot bath.
Oh, yeah baby!!! I was in like Flynn and I even had a go at the tea. After the foot bath, my feet were massaged and well, massaged, pampered and oh yes...
I and my relaxed lower appendages were led to Room 15, where the remainder of The Total Adjustment treatment was set to continue.
Massages, body pasted, scrubs, being dry-brushed, oilationed, and wrapped were all a part of the experience in Treatment Room 15 that left me truly relaxed, rejuvenated, revitalised and ready for some Willow Stream's decadent delights.
