$15,000 present for Live Healthy Foundation

A WEEK after the Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust announced its donation of $15,000 to Hands of Love, the organisation announced a second donation of the same amount.

The funds, pledged to the Live Healthy Bermuda Foundation, are specifically earmarked to allow children free participation in the 2009 Live Healthy Kids – a new part of the Bermuda 100-Day Challenge, the first annual event that helped Bermudians collectively lose more than 7,000 pounds.

"Everyone behind the Catlin End-to-End event believes in health for the entire community," said Bermuda End-to-End chairman Anne Mello.

"Our donation of $15,000 to this programme was made because we believe children's health and fitness is important, and Live Healthy Kids is a wonderful way to encourage this."

The Live Healthy Bermuda Kids Challenge is a new initiative by Live Healthy Bermuda and the Bermuda 100-Day Challenge. It will start on February 1, 2009, and will finish on the same day as the Catlin End-to-End event on May 2 next year.

"We wanted to remove as many barriers as possible for kids to sign up for this great event. With a tremendous donation from the Bermuda End-to-End charity, we will be able to offer participation to any child free of charge," said Terry Faulkenberry, president of the Live Healthy Bermuda Foundation.

"The Bermuda End-to-End is providing the funding necessary to build the web site and provide the web hosting for 2009 – which has really made the programme possible."

Teams of children will be organised through school and other groups. An adult team captain forms a team of five to 30 members, such as a school classes, school clubs, church groups or other youth organisations. Children of any age from preschool through to high school may participate.
