An amazing night of music

Just when you thought Barmuvinjam couldn't top their launch party from last summer, they proved otherwise.

All they had to do was bring in video DJs, select an ingenious theme and play soca long enough to see the dance floor filled with soca freaks jumping all about. And they made it look easy.

The fete took place the night before Labour Day in the Fairmont Hamilton Princess' Harbour Ballroom and Gombey Room.

The theme was "Back to the Future", and the party was a salute to the public servants of Bermuda. And yes, it was everything they promised.

Back to the Future featured two rooms, an old school room playing 60s, 70s and 80s music which a huge dose of old school reggae and soca.

The second room had all the latest hip-hop, reggae, soca and R&B. I spent the majority of my night jumping and waving there.

What made this party one to remember was the twist on entertainment. Final Image VJs (FI) from Barbados were the stars of the night.

I had some type of vision in my mind of what they would do, but when they did it live, I was blown away!

These guys were off the hook, literally. Now if you weren't at the party, you missed it, but I will do you the favour of trying to explain it.

Bentley and Dave created this experience where music videos mixed in with other videos just like how they would spin music.

The videos were played on two enormous projector screens on either side of the DJ station. They not only played videos, but they did their own remixes of videos. It was amazing.

At one point, old reggae videos were played; videos so old that Beenie Man didn't have dreads in quite of few of them.

It was incredible they were able to find these videos. It was also cool because there was a camera directed at the party so people could see themselves dancing on the screen.

In addition to the reggae, FI played a good dose of hip-hop including Soldier Boy's new hit 'Crank That Soldier Boy' with a few hip-hip heads doing the entire dance.

The best part of the night for me and many other people was when Barmuvinjam resident DJ D'General stepped up to play soca.

He played hit after hit with people filling the dance floor to jump, wave and wine they bumper.

Now let me move to the oldies room. At first, I wasn't feeling the music in there. After all, I am only 21.

But as time passed, I checked back and they were playing songs I actually knew and could sing to. And I must say, the "old folks" knew how to party: they were getting down!

That room also had a hefty dose of old school soca and some great reggae.

It was hard to just stay in one room because both of them were playing music that was on point.

Another part of the party was the VIP room. It was great because there were small tables with a FEVER gift bag containing the beverage, a few candies, a Fever flag and a cup.

The best part about the VIP section was the table side service. It was like you were at a different event.

And, there was a plasma set up in there so that you didn't miss anything.

I have to say I was wrong. I thought, stupidly, that Barmuvinjam couldn't do it again. I thought their launch party was the height of their success.

But they proved to me and all their critics that it could be done and for an entry fee of only $35.

The party was the best I've been to all summer.

And I've been to a few good ones. I'm definitely looking forward to New Year's Eve. You guys did an amazing job!
