One of the leaders in the corporate world was honoured on Saturday night for his work in creating a drug-free work place and helping the rehabilitated get back on their feet.

Jim Butterfield, president of wholesalers Butterfield and Vallis, received the first Special Corporate Award from Bermudians Against Narcotics (BAN) for his drug-free workplace.

Butterfield and Vallis is a company that has been around for three generations and over 80 years in the Butterfield family to fulfil the demands of local stores, restaurants, hospitals and hotels.

The company employs 200 people, and more than a third of whom have been with them for over ten years.

Mr. Butterfield was honoured for the company's policy of a drug-free work place, which is enforced by drug testing from the president down to the shop floor worker. Mr. Butterfield is also committed to employing rehabilitated substance abusers.

BAN founding member Takbir Sharieff said that BAN, which was founded to garner support for the war against drugs in Bermuda, sees Mr. Butterfield as a leader of this initiative by Butterfield and Vallis.
