DJLT gives 'Green Light' to Legend and Andre

Obama did it! Actually, the people of America did it, too. As he said this past Tuesday evening, 4th November, this was an election of and for the people of America.

This is an historical day and one that I am thankful to God Almighty that I lived to see. However, as President-elect Obama said, this is just the start. There is so much more work to be done.

More on this after The Top 20.

Improving to number one is dance anthem Disturbia by hot girl Rihanna. This is an awesome, catchy track with a hot beat.

Spotlight, by former American Idol songstress Jennifer Hudson tumbles to number two. This chart topper currently also sits atop the Billboard Hip-Hop and Dance charts. Evidence of the song's appeal within different segments of the music industry.

Climbing to number three is The Business by Yung Berg featuring Casha, a current hip-hop fave.

Falling to number four is Jazmine Sullivan's new hit entitled Need You Bad.

Up to number five is Whatever You Like by T.I.

Up to number six is Can't Believe It by T-Pain and Lil Wayne.

Up to number seven is She's Royal by Taurus Riley, one of the coolest reggae songs of the year and a former essential new tune.

More of my favourite genre: dance music. Improving to number eight is the new hit from Ne-Yo, entitled Closer. Please check out the dance remix - it bangs.

Staying with dance music - falling to number nine is Give It To Me by Madonna.

Soaring to number ten is Mrs. Officer by my namesake Lil Wayne featuring Bobby Valentino and Kidd Kidd, one of the hottest songs around and a former essential new tune.

Slipping to number 11 is When I Grow Up by the Pussycat Dolls, one of the hottest, sexiest and most creative groups around.

Tumbling to number 12 is Take A Bow, a sad love story by Rihanna.

Down to number 13 is a kicking dance track by Natasha Beddingfield, entitled Angel.

Up to number 14 is Jennifer Hudson's monster new hip-hop track, Pocket Book, a duet with Ludacris, which is just a banging track.

Jumping to number 15 is Miss Independent by Ne-Yo, another banger.

Improving to number 16 is Live Your Life by T.I. featuring hot girl Rihanna.

Now this week's essential new tune.

In at number 17 is the monster new track by John Legend and Andre 3000, entitled Green Light. This track, in fact John Legend's entire CD, Evolver, is a collector's item, not to be missed. It has an unusual but punchy beat and is a catchy, sing-a-long hit.

In at number 18 is Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) by Beyonce.

Entering at number 19 is Right Here by Brandy. Its good to have both of these honeys back in the charts with new hits.

Slipping to to number 20 is Heaven Sent by Keyshia Cole. It is simply a beautiful song.

Now back to this week's words: A great day in history - the day America elected its first black president. The election of Barack Hussein Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America gives the entire world hope.

Foreign leaders around the world are excited about the change and the hope that President Elect Obama brings to the U.S. They see Obama for the reasonable, approachable, fair, logical thinker that he is. This is a man who will move America to depart from its "shoot first ask questions later" ethos of the past and will utilise all possible diplomatic options when dealing with international matters.

His campaign was extremely well organised and well run. Granted, his group had a leg up given the deplorable state of the U.S. economy and the wars they are fighting. While I was optimistic and predicted several months ago that Obama would win, America can be a funny place.

I was certain, however, that he had it in the bag when General Colin Powell broke from the Republican party and threw his support behind Obama. Even though party politics is such that some people will vote for a particular party no matter how poorly they perform and even in the face of significant evidence that change is necessary, General Powell's endorsement essentially told the country that the Republican party was done.

A number of Republicans voted for Barack Obama during this election. A number of young people voted for him. The support of new voters made it a landslide. Older people tended to vote for McCain but that does not shock me. This trend is consistent with that demographic. They don't have much confidence in younger people and vote for people their own age.

I want to leave you with a quote that was said during an NPR radio interview and has been heard throughout the campaign: "Rosa sat so that Martin could walk. Martin walked so that Barack could run. Barack ran so that our children can fly!" This is a truly profound statement. However, this is just the beginning. I am now no longer going to accept excuses from my people regarding their inability to get ahead.

We can't blame the white man anymore - that excuse is seriously played out. Anybody who wants to get ahead in this world can do it.

Although it happened in America, President-elect Obama's story and his rise to the U.S. presidency proves that anything is possible.

People must stop making excuses. Stop having children and not loving and providing for them.

We must believe that anything is possible, set goals, commit to achieving them and actually achieve them. We must aim to get the best education possible, including a college education. We must help and encourage each other and lastly, we must get back to our Christian roots and get closer to God.

I will sign off this week with a story told by my pastor in church a few weeks ago. A study was done in the U.S. some years ago where they looked at two families. One family had strong Christian values and a spiritual core. This family attended church regularly and was actively involved in the life of the church and the surrounding community. The other family did not attend church and had no spiritual core, living it up in the world and enjoying all manner of worldly pleasures and indulgences. The study traced both family trees through several generations and discovered that the family with the Christian values produced doctors, lawyers, senators, teachers, preachers and mostly decent, law-abiding citizens with decent levels of wealth.

Conversely, after many generations, the family without Christian values or any form of religious involvement produced a higher proportion of drug addicts, underachievers, a higher divorce rate, a significant number of convicts and prisoners, as well as a lower incidence of professionals with a lower level of wealth.

You can interpret that story any way you want, but, in my opinion, the message is clear: if you want your bloodline to do well in future generations, get right with God and stay close to God.

Although President-elect Barack Obama has many good qualities, which have prepared him for this day and this calling - it is his faith in God and the fact that so many people around the world have prayed for him that has gotten him to this point in his journey and will propel him to succeed. If God be for you, who can be against you?

Thank God for the new and 44th President of the United States of America - President-elect Barack Obama!

Peace¿.
