Fairmont Southampton to host jazz concert series

Jazz lovers or those hankering for a little something different are welcome to attend the launch of the Bermuda Breeze Smooth Jazz 08 concert series.

The monthly contemporary jazz nights launch tomorrow night at the Fairmont Southampton.

Wanda Bremar, who was speaking on behalf of LTT Broadcasting/Loft Productions said that KJAZ 98.1 is promoting the concerts along with the Fairmont Southampton.

Tomorrow night's line-up will include both local and international acts for the Martin Luther King Tribute, she explained.

"International artists such as Bob Baldwin and Friends, Theresa Hightower and Friends, from Atlanta including renowned musicians such as Jonah Ellis, who is the former musical director of the Temptations and songwriter of "Don't Stop the Music," which was a billboard chart hit in the 70s.

"Local artists include Milt Robinson and Friends, Tempo with Randy Lambert, Stevie Darrell, of Stevie and the Antels, with special oratory by Ruth Thomas."

Asked whether there was a particular theme or genre of jazz that patrons could expect, she replied: "Smooth Jazz or Contemporary Jazz."

KJAZ 98.1 are hoping that the concert series will go much further than the walls of the hotel.

"We are hoping that the Jazz Series will spread the love or popularity of jazz to a wider audience and see the resurgence of local talent who can be showcased regularly for the Bermudian audiences."
