IT was really thanks to an internationally famous photojournalist by the name of Flip Schulke that I ended up in Havana in 1959.
While studying photojournalism at the University of Miami, my professor, an ex-editor of the then famous Life magazine, insisted that I meet Miami-based Flip, the uncle of Bermudian photographer Graeme Outerbridge.
Very kindly and generously, Flip decided to take me under his wing in return for my helping him out on a few assignments.
When Flip was asked to cover the unfolding dramatic events in Cuba for a French magazine, Flip's Spanish being non-existent and my Spanish fluent; I was a natural choice to help him out.
