Party has everything; including an interesting twist
An upcoming party saluting the public servants of Bermuda promises two rooms, seven DJs, giveaways and more importantly, an experience!
Barmuvinjam, the group who brought you numerous Halloween parties, their legendary website launch party last summer and the High Tide party this summer, presents Back To The Future, a classy affair taking place on Sunday, September 2 at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.
Director Renalda Bean sat down with The Royal Gazette to explain where the name came from, what people can expect and why they should attend.
The soiree will feature two rooms ¿ room one with Radigan, Juggling J and Bubbles playing hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s; with a special tribute to James Brown. Room two will have all the latest hits in R&B, reggae and soca with Shock-N-Lust, Dirkistan, Barmuvinjam resident DJ, D'General, and, straight out of Barbados, Final Image (FI) VJs. Mr. Bean said the group is targetting an older crowd but will also welcome their usual target group ¿ 25- to 35-year-olds.
"It's the type of event where you can have two generations at the same party," he said. "You have a choice of music. People of the mature generation who like the old and recent music can have both. Basically, you always have a choice. You can go back and forth from room to room and get a full dose of music."
He said the name, Back To The Future, came from the two different themes and genres of music. The party is dedicated to the public servants of Bermuda because, according to Mr. Bean, that's what Labour Day is all about.
"We really want to salute the public service, the union, Government and blue-collar workers. We want them to come out," Mr. Bean said.
Along with everything this fete has to offer, there will be an interesting, new twist ¿ video DJs, he added.
"They perform like regular DJs but use projector screens. Large projectors with music and dancing to be played on the screens. The DJs are from Barbados. This has never been done in Bermuda. It's a popular trend in Miami. Even if you explain it, you don't get to fully appreciate it until you see it."
He continued: "FI VJs is their performance name. They have thousands of videos covering all genres. They can do from hip-hop to reggae to alternative to rock. They play the video like you're in a club. The beat and the mix, it's tight, it's seamless. It creates an element of multi-sensory experience. It makes you feel like you're in a music video."
He also said there will be a live camera going from the video into the crowd.
Mr. Bean talked about the group's anticipation for the event.
"People say, 'You can't outdo the last one'. This event is going to be like 'Man!' You can't compare anything to it because it's never been done. It's not very often you find people over 40 going to an event with this much excitement. We would like to repeat once in a while."
"It should be nice. It's going to be a unique experience. This concept touches so many things. It gives you variety and options. It's going to be a fantastic event. It's going to be like the launch party with a futuristic, multimedia, technological twist."
The dress code for the event is smart. Mr. Bean said: "If you don't know what smart is, you shouldn't come."
The organiser explained this isn't a party for everyone and once the tickets are gone, that's it.
Tickets for the event are $35 in advance and can only be purchased from Barmuvinjam executives. Discounted tickets are available for public servants with ID for $25 and can be bought at Secrets in the Washington Mall.
VIP seating, sponsored by Fever, is limited. To book a table call 505-9601 or 335-8714. Part of the proceeds are going to the Bermuda Police Service cricket team which will travel to South Africa in October.
