Rhianna is showing her Caribbean roots...
SO a new day dawns in America and indeed the entire world that is God's Green Earth. The election of Barack Hussein Obama has given people in America and millions more all over the world hope and filled them all with more hope than has ever been caused by any election in the history of mankind. I truly believe that Barack Obama was sent by God to sort out this mad, mad world. OK, don't get it twisted; I'm not saying he is like Jesus Christ, but every 50 years or so we see the rise of a special human being:a person who is brilliant, compassionate, humble, articulate, dynamic, genuine, honest, a born leader. And this person is able to do things that others, for so many reasons, just cannot do.
When this happens and when it is ordained by God to happen; there is nothing that anyone can do to deny this person their greatness, to dull their star, to halt their advancement and success and to stop them from fulfilling their God-given purpose.
More on this after Bermuda's Top 20.
Holding at number one is current dance anthem Disturbia by hot girl Rihanna.
Climbing to number two is The Business by Yung Berg featuring Casha, a current hip hop fave. I keep surprising the young people in the family by knowing the words and artists of their music. I guess they really don't read; or they don't know DJ LT.
Spotlight, by former American Idol songstress Jennifer Hudson tumbles to number three.
Now my favourite genre, dance music. Improving to number four is the new hit from Ne-Yo, entitled Closer.
Up to number five is Whatever You Like by T.I. Up to number six is Can't Believe It by T-Pain and Li'l Wayne.
Up to number seven is She's Royal by Taurus Riley, one of the coolest reggae songs of the year and a former essential new tune.
Falling to number eight is Jazmine Sullivan's new hit entitled Need You Bad.
Soaring to number nine is Mrs. Officer by my namesake L'il Wayne featuring Bobby Valentino and Kidd Kidd, one of the hottest songs around and a former essential new tune.
Back to dance music, tumbling to number 10 is Give It To Me by Madonna.
Up to number 11 is Jennifer Hudson's monster new hip hop track; Pocket Book, a duet with Ludacris, which is just a banging track..
Slipping to number 12 is When I Grow Up by the Pussycat Dolls, one of the hottest, sexiest and most creative groups around.
Jumping to number 13 is Miss Independent by Ne-Yo, another banger. This one is kind of a love song atop a creatively produced but slowed down hip hop beat. Ne-Yo is one of the few dudes who is still singing love songs; a welcome change from violent hip hop that has dominated the music industry over the past 10 years or so.
Improving to number 14 is Live Your Life by TI featuring hot girl Rihanna. This one also kicks and its rhythm, tempo and style remind me of something Collie Budz produced a while back. Rihanna is showing her Caribbean roots on this one. Her extensive use of the word "haters" definitely is a take off from Collie Buddz' hit Blind To You.
Now last week's essential new tune. Up to number 15 is the monster new track by John Legend and Andre 3000, entitled Green Light.
Now this week's essential new tune. Improving to number 16 is Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) by Beyonce. This one is all over the radio and video channels. It's typical Beyonce excellence and the haters can just go away; Beyonce is hot and the song is banging.
Climbing to number 17 is Right Here by Brandy.
Tumbling to number 18 is Take A Bow, a sad love story by Rihanna.
New at number 19 is Dangerous by Kardinal Official, all the way from Canada, featuring Akon. That's right: hot tunes are coming out of Canada these days. This one has a kicking but jittery beat with catchy lyrics. On the way out at number 20 is Heaven Sent by Keyshia Cole, a simply beautiful song.
Now back to this week's word - Barack Obama's calling.
The world is in a bad space/place right now. The stock markets are in trouble, there are two major wars being fought and continued tensions in other regions.
The economic crisis threatens many nations, the oil prices are taking its toll on many industries, especially the American Auto Industry which hires so many people in the USA.
I don't have the information but can only imagine that the same is true in Asia, where many cars are also manufactured. Christian values are almost a foreign concept or one never ever heard of before, based on the lifestyles of the majority of Western people.
Interestingly, many people from the East are moving to the West in hopes of a better life. While the Western world also has many problems, Barack Obama could well be the man to solve many of them.
President-elect Obama's election saw people all over the world filled with joy and happy optimism. America has finally grown up; well, some 60-65 per cent of Americans have grown up.
He still receives hate mail and death threats every day and his organisation is smart enough to not give these idiots and bigots any media coverage by acknowledging them. They are so dumb that they don't realise that he represents them too; he was white roots as well.
But this just proves that the races are still divided. A white guy I know said to me the other day, "We are now going to start claiming all mixed people, people like Alica Keys, Barack Obama, Tiger Woods, etc. as our own."
While that's good, it is hard to undo the fact that for 500 years white people denied and wanted nothing to do with biracial children.
You can't just change that overnight because the balance of power has shifted and now the playing field is level.
That's 500 years of blood, sweat, tears, underprivileged backgrounds, racial hatred, bigotry, oppression, etc. which caused mixed children to align themselves with the black part of their families, because often the white side wanted nothing to do with them.
Obama has the ability to unite not just black and white but the entire world.
Hopefully one day we will get past racial hatred, which is really all about ignorance, evil, unfair treatment and as, Haile Selassie said, "a philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior". I believe we are finally on the road to "finally and permanently discrediting this and abandoning it."
Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention will go down as one of the greatest speeches ever delivered. It was a thing of excellence. A good friend of mine who lives in South Florida said it was on a par with the Gettysburg Address and other great speeches.
Folks, I am telling you that President-elect Obama has the potential to go down in history as not only one of the best American Presidents; he could end up being hailed as one of the Best Ever Leaders in the history of mankind.
One of the reasons is that Obama, unlike Tiger Woods, has embraced his responsibility and his opportunity to transform the world.
While Tiger Woods likes to deny that he is black (look in the mirror brah; the world sees you as a black man!) and prefers to say that he is a one-man United Nations (which is his prerogative); Obama uses a different strategy - he embraces his blackness but also celebrates his white roots, his African heritage, his Hawaiian heritage, his Indonesian experiences and upbringing and he uses this to reach across the globe.
I tell you; this guy is way bigger than even America imagines, which is why I believe that he was sent by God.
Think about his very humble beginnings; the fact that he is mixed race, his mother's story, being raised by his grandparents, living all over the place, his success in education, his rise to power, his humility, his graciousness, it all adds up for me.
God knew that the world was too divided. Obama, like no other person on the planet at this time, has the ability to create world peace, which is one of my wishes and indeed the desire of our Creator. All right- thinking people in 2008 also want world peace.
Obama will speak to people from distant nations with different stories and reasons for fighting.
He will hear them out and will exhaust all diplomatic options before putting on his Commander-in-Chief hat and pulling the trigger.
He understands that war and fighting must be the last option when no other solution is available and lives are either threatened or being already lost in large numbers and in inhumane ways.
I've never fought in a war but I have trained for one. From being on courses and training with men and women who have actually fought in wars; I can tell you that war is a nasty, awful, horrible business and should never be fought. However, there are times when war is the only option.
Although some people will not like when I say this and will disagree with me; I believe that America is the greatest country in the world. I say this because the world is in tatters right now and is looking to America for leadership. America is like the big brother who is good looking, intelligent, savvy, a high achiever, successful, problem solver, seems to be good at everything, who makes good decisions, gets things right and is the person the whole family looks up to for everything, especially in times of trouble.
Like it or not, America is that big brother and the world right now is looking to America for leadership.
Although nobody is perfect (Obama smokes cigarettes); he seems awfully close and you have to like the connection, the love, respect, partnership and adoring relationship he has with his wife and soulmate Michelle Robinson Obama.
Anyone thinking of heading to DC to be part of history on January 20? Good luck finding a room.
You might be able to ante up $40,000 for a four-night stay at a fancy hotel, or you can crash on someone's couch or floor.
Anything in between is just about gone for Barack Obama's Inauguration. Such is Obama's popularity that the Washington is sold-out during that history-making week in January 2009.
President-elect Barack Obama is a transformational leader, the likes of which has never been seen before in any country.
The guy is special; get used to it. Also, I'm predicting now that he will serve two terms
There are too many of us praying for him, he is too good a guy and God is protecting him.
However, we must keep praying for him, his Queen and those two beautiful Princesses.
God stay with them so that the world can become a better, happier, safer place on President Barack Obama's watch.
Peace ...
