'A medley of techniques'

Jon Legere gets tough and raw in his new show ‘Pomo Cuts’ which opens at Rock Island Coffee tonight.

The ‘Pomo’ of the show’s title is a play on ‘postmodern’, the artist said, and he promised that those familiar with his work will find these pieces quite different.

“The last show was all digital and very clean,” he said. “This one is much tougher and raw. Theses images aren’t safe and will not be as accessible as previous work — though I am very excited about the outcome.”

Mr. Legere, who has exhibited in New York City, Philadelphia, Germany, Spain and Taiwan in addition to on the Island, said he worked in a variety of media for Pomo Cuts.

“This work is a medley of ideas and a medley of techniques pieced together with one common word — cut,” he said of the pieces, which were all inspired by loss.

But if the works seem dark to the viewer, there will be plenty of wine on hand for those who fancy something other than a sobering cup of coffee.

The show opens at 7 p.m. at Rock Island Coffee, Reid Street, Hamilton and will run until the end of December.
