BJSL continues giving tradition
The Bermuda Junior Service League has continued in the holiday tradition of giving.
And during their 54 years, they provided a bright spot for those in the hospital with their annual Hospital Christmas Bag programme.
BJSL president Susan Smith said that members of the organisation delivered the bags to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute and Agape House.
"The need was great, and the community responded," she said.
"Donations from local businesses and organisations poured in.
"The Hospital Christmas Bags were chock-full of needed and wanted items such as shampoos, lotions, toothbrushes, bottled water, snacks, personal care items and even toys and colouring books for the kids.
"In addition to members of the League, volunteers from IAS stepped in and assisted with the assembly of the bags."
This year 441 bags were put together for every man, woman and child who spent the holiday in the hospital and delivered by the team of volunteers on December 21.
Last Christmas, the BJSL delivered 433 Christmas Bags, which was an 18 percent increase over 2005.
"We look forward to bringing some holiday cheer to those who are in the hospital at Christmas," said project chairperson Verde Pineda.
"We hope that this one act of kindness will make a difference to the recipients and remind them that people care."
