Bring in the New Year 'Hollywood style'
If you are looking to party Hollywood style on New Year's Eve with all the glitz and glamour, one promotion company has the answer for you with a Hollywood themed event.
Barmuvinjam presents their first ever NYE party called "Hollywood". This newspaper sat down with the organisers to get a feel of what to expect, how to dress and why people should come early.
The event will take place at the Berkeley Institute Auditorium with live entertainment, a light buffet, complimentary champagne toast, multiple DJs and so much more.
One thing Barmuvinjam faithful's will recognise is the return of the FI video DJ's from Barbados. The pair performed at Barmuvinjam's 'Back to the Future' party in September and after high demand, are back.
A Barmuvinjam spokesperson said: "If you were at the last party, you know. Their remixes will be the highlight of the event. It's incredible."
The inspiration for the event comes from DJ Younguls. The spokesperson said he recalls a NYE party the DJ did about eight to ten years ago and says it is the last NYE party that people remember actually enjoying. He said people still talk about the event to this day.
"We are attempting to be a memorable party," he said. "Something five years from now people will still remember."
As for the theme, Hollywood was chosen because organisers felt it was the best theme to encourage partygoers to dress the part.
The spokesperson added: "This is going to be the pace to be. We are basically assimilating a night at an awards show filled with a red carpet entrance, paparazzi cameras and a huge backdrop."
Live entertainment includes former Bermuda Idol winner Sia Spence, Twanee Butterfield, Sea Breeze Salsa, Jazel, Soulfully Acoustic, Bermuda Tri and more. The MC for the night will be comedian Jah.
The event will begin at 8 p.m. and this is one of those parties that will actually start on time. Organisers are telling patrons to come on time to avoid missing out on the many giveaways of the night.
Beginning at 8 p.m., there will be complimentary cocktails for everyone, but there will be a cut-off time. The live show and light buffet will start at 9 p.m. with the buffet running until 11 p.m.
VIP areas will remain a mystery, but VIP ticket holders will have table service all night, a bottle of champagne, valet parking, complimentary cocktails and more. There will be VIP sections inside the party as well as outside.
As far as how many people they are expecting, organisers said: "It's going to be enough people to create the right atmosphere but not be a crowded event. This is a night were everyone is a star and will be treated like a celebrity."
There will be martini stations, a press box, VIP lounges, photo opportunities and more. As far as dress code, tuxedos are not required, but suit jackets are preferred. For the ladies, cocktail dresses and gowns are acceptable. Persons wearing jeans will not be admitted.
In addition to the party, there will be an official countdown to midnight with a complimentary champagne toast. The party will kick off at 11 p.m. with the after party taking place after the toast.
DJs for the event include Juggling Jason, Rodigan, Bermuda's top soca DJ and Barmuvinjam resident DJ, D'General and the FI Video DJ's.
General parking will be on the Berkeley school field with shuttles carting guests to and from the party. Only VIPs will be allowed to drive onto the premises. Part proceeds will go the Berkeley Institute Foundation.
And if you haven't bought your tickets by now, the prices have increased significantly as the group is not expected to have any door sales.
Tickets are $80 and can be purchased at Secrets in Washington Mall or from a Barmuvinjam executive member.
Major sponsors for the event include TBI, Digicel, Bacardi Ltd. and Fever.
