Come out and celebrate women
A jam-packed night of live entertainment celebrating women and helping to support the Women’s Resource Centre is set for the popular open mike creative forum, the Chewstick Neo-Griot Lounge, on Sunday.
Guest hosting the event will be the spunky and spontaneous Chewstick regular, Springflower — a lady renowned for her bright spirit and spontaneity.
Special performances by members of the resident Chewstick house band Olyghosh, and DJs The Dirkistan Freedom Fighters, will add to what is sure to be a memorable evening.
Patrons will also enjoy a sneak preview of the ‘Vagina Monologues’, which are to be staged in full in the Mid- Atlantic Amphitheatre of the Fairmont Southampton Resort on March 15 and 16. “It’s our annual tribute to God’s greatest gift: Women, so bring your ears, your instruments, your mamma, your sister, your girlfriend, your wife, your baby mamma, and whoever or whatever else you need to have a good time,” spokesman Gavin Sundjata Smith says.
All proceeds will go to the Women’s Resource Centre, and in addition to the $5 cover charge there will be further opportunities to donate.
The venue is, as always, Champion’s Sports Bar at 73 Reid Street. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the mike is live from 8 p.m. to midnight. For further information
Chewstick’s Neo-Griot Lounge takes place on alternate Sundays, and is Bermuda’s longest running open-mike jam session. The lounge boasts a line-up of the Island’s talented singer/songwriters, musicians, rappers, and poets — all backed by Olybhosh, (the Chewstick house band) and Chewstick DJs, the Dirkistan Freedom Fighters.
