Dancers take part in trash-a-thon

Over the last ten years, the In Motion School of Dance has been committed to giving back to the community. In addition to performances, the students work with several local charities, doing their part to help the environment.

This year the dancers took part in the 10th annual trash-a-thon on February 24 and 25 at the Warwick Playground and Shelly Bay Park.

“Over the past ten years we have collected over 1,000 bags of trash from such places as the National Stadium, along Warwick Railway Trails, Boaz Island, Warwick Playground, Shelly Bay and we also assisted with the Hurricane Fabian cleanup,” said Lizz Pimentel, founder and director of In Motion School of Dance.

“Students gain a better appreciation of the litter problem in Bermuda, and are able to do their part in the restoration of the Island’s landscape.

“This also helps to raise funds for the purchase of costumes for their 10th Annual Dance Showcase, which will be held in May.

“By providing positive experiences like these we hope that our students gain a better understanding and appreciation of maintaining our Island’s beauty and realise the importance of not littering.”

Mrs. Pimentel added: “The School is grateful to Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) for their assistance. We would also like to give our sincere thanks to all the parents, dancers and sponsors who do their part to help support our efforts to keep Bermuda clean.”
