EASTER BONANZA Celebrities and fun for Easter weekend
Bermudians are in for a treat as this year's Easter weekend will be one to remember with international celebrities touching down on the Island for a weekend of fun.
A bowling tournament, celebrity clothing auction, masquerade party and comedy show are some of the events Exquisite Designs will be hosting as part of their All-Star Celebrity Easter Weekend.
The weekend will feature Bermudian Superbowl champion New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce, Gospel sensation Yolanda Adams, actor and comedian Anthony Anderson and a line-up of comedians who plan to bring the funny to Bermuda.
Festivities begin on Friday with the Good Friday Celebrity Take Off Your Clothes event at Horseshoe Bay Beach. From 1 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. during the Young United Good Friday events, a public auction of various celebrity clothing will take place. Mr. Pierce is expected to have several items up for sale. Celebrity comedians will also be there.
Next on the agenda is the Comedy Laugh Off II where patrons will see local and international comedians take the stage for a night of laughter.
On Good Friday night, Bermuda's two fools, Nadanja and Jah, will open the show to warm up the audience for the international comedians, Damon Williams, Cocoa Brown, Joey Wells and headliner Tony Roberts.
Promoters say this show is not to be missed as the first one over the Labour Day Holiday sold out as the comedians had the audience laughing all night long. The lineup, entirely from Los Angeles, has almost 20 cumulative years of experience in the comedy field and is expected to keep the audience in stitches.
The Comedy Laugh Off II will take place at the Berkeley Institute Cafetorium with two shows available for the public at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Tickets are $50 and are available at Music World, Secrets, Stefanel and Caesar's Pharmacy.
Promoters are encouraging patrons to buy their tickets in advance as the show is expected to sell out.
Saturday afternoon will see local celebrities participate in the Celebrity Bowling Tournament at Warwick Lanes as Mr. Pierce plays host and celebrity bowler. The event starts at 1 p.m. with a local or international captain joining a team of four.
The bowling teams have already been chosen as that part of the event is sold out. However, adults and children are invited to watch the festivities for $15 and $5 respectively. Music and food will be on sale and the celebrities will be mingling among everyone in attendance.
For those patrons interested in partying the night away, on Saturday night, the Fairmont Hamilton Princess is the place to be as actor and comedian, Anthony Anderson hosts 'A Masquerade Affair'.
The event will feature DJ Biz Markie who's hits from the 80s and 90s include 'Just A Friend', 'Vapors' and 'Nobody Beats the Biz'. Joining Biz Markie are local's, DJ Kaos and DJ Chubb who will be playing the hottest new and old school music to get partygoers in the mood. Also in attendance will be Mr. Pierce and other exciting celebrity guests.
At this 25 plus event, partygoers are expected to wear masks as no one will be admitted without one. Promoters say the night will be filled with excitement. There will also be a special complimentary cocktail and hours d'oeuvres for guests.
Tickets for the Masquerade Affair are $75 and are available at Secrets, Sasch, Music Box and Music World. VIP tickets are available by calling 337-1335.
The final event for the All-Star Celebrity Weekend is guaranteed to lift your soul as gospel legend Yolanda Adams headlines the Easter Sunday Gospel Brunch.
The four-time Grammy award winning artist is known for her hits including 'Never Give Up' and 'Believe'.
The brunch will be hosted by the mother-daughter duo Pat and Patrina O'Connor and will take place at the Southampton Princess Mid-Ocean Amphitheatre.
Local acts include Toni Robinson, Rejoice directed by Darryl Simons and Yarah Liturgical Dam Company under the leadership of Shona Henry. In addition to the performances, a brunch will be served.
Tickets for this event are $125 and can be bought at Music World, Music Box, Caesar's Pharmacy and Secrets.
The Salvation Army will benefit from the events as part of the proceeds will go directly to the charity.
