<Bz23>'Fibres' show opens tonight
The Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation is presenting a show focusing on the use of innovative materials this weekend.
The ‘Fibres’ show, which opens this evening, will feature some of Bermuda’s best artists working in unusual mediums.
The entire exhibit is comprised of works created from natural fibres and various textiles. Pieces have been created through weaving, sewing, quilting, knitting and felting.
Artists displaying works include Kathy Harriott, Will Collieson, Jean Rodriguez, Lynn Morrell, Meredith Thatcher, Myra Aubrey and Kaleidoscope founder Fiona Rose Rodriguez Roberts.
Ms Rodriguez Roberts said: “I was motivated to arrange the show because I knew that although there were a lot of local artists who worked in this medium, they were not getting enough exposure.
“I felt that no one really celebrates fibre art and a lot of people aren’t even sure what a fibre artist is. The artists that are participating work very differently from each other and it is a tricky medium.
“I am very excited to see this body of work from these artists up in the gallery. I hope it will encourage other fibre artists to create and show.”
The show will open tonight at 6 p.m. at the Elliott Gallery at Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation, 27 Jubilee Road, Devonshire. It will run until December 21.
