Giants, demons and magic beans ... it must be pantomime season!
You know Christmas is coming when the word 'pantomime' is heard loud and clear, and sure enough the Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society has plans well in hand for this year's offering.
'Jack and the Beanstalk' will be performed at City Hall theatre from December 5-15 under the direction of Jo Shane and, as always, promises "hare-brained hilarity" from start to finish.
Set in the town of Daddydown Dilly, where the local residents are plagued by the greedy Giant Blunderbore, young Jack Durden (played by Devaune Ratteray) takes on the terrifying challenge of climing the magic beanstalk to rid the town of the gigantic menace.
Kelvin Hastings-Smith will once again play the dame – Dame Dottie – accompanied by her delightful, but willful 'side kick', Daisy the Cow (Alex Furtado and Amanda Richardson in real life). Giant Bluderbore will be played by Roy Richardson and Jenny Burrell, while Jessica Zuiker has the role of Princess Felicia. Others in the cast include Leo Mills (King Umpty), Shawn Angiers and James Bennett, respectively (Bubble and Squeak), Paul Ha (Fairy Evergreeen), Mark Hamilton (Simple Simon), Sarah Davison (Jumping Joan) and George Lin (Pieman).
Giants, demons, magic beans and golden hens all play their part, and of course there will be a wedding – Jack always gets his girl, after all – and of course everyone will eventually live happily ever after.
Lisa Maule is the pantomime's musical director, and Devaune Ratteray is the choregrapher. Producers are Jenn Osmond, Naomi Little, Leanne Perrin and Janice Duffy.
Ticket sales begin tomorrow at Daylesford Theatre, as do online bookings (www.bmds.bm) after 5.30 p.m. the same day.
