Lose weight and stop smoking to treat your 'burning feet'

Dear Dr. Gott:<$> Our daughter, in her mid-50s, is plagued by “burning feet.” It’s so painful that it causes insomnia. She can walk for only 15 minutes without pain, so exercise is too painful. She is at least 60 pounds overweight and an addicted smoker. She has seen doctors, including a podiatrist and a neurologist, and has been diagnosed with Morton’s neuroma on the bottoms of her feet. She is debating the removal of the inflamed nerves.Dear reader:<$> Your daughter — who appears to be a candidate for serious vascular consequences secondary to her weight and smoking — may be helped by surgery, but I doubt that a complete recovery is likely until she addresses all of her health problems. She should also be examined by a vascular specialist before she has foot surgery. Burning feet is often caused by poor circulation in overweight smokers. To help your daughter lose weight, I am sending you a copy of my Health Report “A Strategy for Losing Weight: An Introduction to the No Flour, No Sugar Diet.”

Other readers who would like a copy should send a long, self-addressed, stamped envelope and $2 to Newsletter, PO Box 167, Wickliffe, OH 44092. Be sure to mention the title.

For further information regarding the diet, including food lists, recipes and meal planners, I recommend my book “Dr. Gott’s No Flour, No Sugar Diet.”

You can purchase the book through you local bookstore or directly from the publisher at 800-605-7176 or www.quilldriverbooks.com.

Because the book has been received so well, I am creating a recipe book based on the diet. Readers who have developed their own original no-flour, no-sugar recipes can send them to me at No Flour, No Sugar Recipe Contest, c/o Dr. Gott, PO Box 416, Salisbury, CT 06068.

I will test them and select the best to be published in the book. Everyone who submits a recipe that is put in the book will receive credit, and the people who submit the top five recipes in each category will also receive a free, autographed copy. The categories are Kids’ Fun Foods, Snacks on the Go, Breakfast, Entrees, Side Dishes and Desserts.Dear Dr. Gott:<$> Another soap compliment. I am a 56-year-old diabetic. I tried the soap under my sheets to help with my legs. My English bulldog is six years old and sleeps with me.He suffered from stiffness and limped a lot. The soap has helped him immensely. So, not only does it work for humans, it also helps dogs. Thought you’d like to know.Dear reader: Thanks for writing. I think! At least your bulldog was not imagining his improvement. Therefore, his experience is not due to psychological issues. But we still don’t know how the soap therapy works. To give you related information, I am sending you a copy of my Health Report “Living with Diabetes Mellitus.” Other readers who would like a copy should send a long, self-addressed, stamped envelope and $2 to Newsletter, PO Box 167, Wickliffe, OH 44092.
