More Mosaic 101
Kaleidoscope Foundation teaching artist Shelly Hamill reports that, due to the overwhelming response for its first intensive beginner mosaic class in May, another three-day beginner's intensive is being offered from June 4 to 6. This class will offer the basics for mosaic, using ceramic tile. Each student will complete a one foot by one foot piece to take home, and all materials will be provided. The fee is $270 for members and $340 for non-members, plus an additional $100 fee for materials. Students are asked to submit in advance their ideas for a piece they would like to create. For the classes, which will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., they should wear comfortable clothes and bring their own lunch. Class size will be limited to eight students, so early registration is recommended. For further information contact Fiona at e-mail kaleidoscopeartsfoundation@logic.bm marked 'attn. Time to get 'Famous' playwriting pens out
With a May 23 deadline for entries in this year's Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society's 'Famous for 15 Minutes' playwriting competition, aspiring authors are urged to get to work on their entries now. Rules require the play to have no more than four characters, all of them adult, and be 15 minutes in length. Writers, who must be Bermuda residents, should also bear in mind that, if their work is staged, simple props and set will be required. The BMDS requests two copies of each script: one hard copy to be submitted to Daylesford, and the second is an electronic version which should be e-mailed to ahintz@img.bm
From the overall entries, judges will select six finalists whose work will be performed, for which auditions will be held at Daylesford Theatre on June 17 and 18. Performance dates are July 21 to 26.
