Reggae for mature audiences on tap
The conscious Reggae scene in Bermuda is alive and well and Jah Pickney Promotions, is a group that provides regular venues for fans.
Christopher Famous, of Jah Pickney Promotions, says that the next One Love, Lover's Rock dance will be held at the Devonshire Recreation Club tonight.
"The music will be provided by Embassy and Spearchucka," he said.
Mr. Famous began providing events like the upcoming event almost 13 years ago for many reasons.
"Basically going back to 1995 a couple of friends and I thought that there were no events that we found appealing to us, so we thought we can either complain or do our own thing," he said.
"We then had the privilege of renting out Admiralty House and that appealed to the mature market. That was the genesis of why we started, but the unfortunate part was that after a few years Admiralty House closed down.
"That was very appealing to the mature audience because it wasn't just the inside, but it was also the garden setting, where people could become one with nature."
He added: "We have been trying to rekindle that and we have had some level of success since we have been doing it at Devonshire Rec.
Tickets $20 and tickets are available at the door.
