Fundraiser features flashback to the 70s
Tickets are selling like they are going out of style for The Family Centre's Saturday night extravaganza – which is being hailed as "the party of the year".
The Beatle's Mania Magical Tour is set to feature all things 70s – from the bell-bottoms to psychedelic tie-dyed shirts.
The event is being held at the Mid Ocean Amphitheatre, at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.
A five-course meal, promised to be a gastronomic delight, will be served with paired wines for each course.
The Family Centre, press relations, marketing and events manager Elizabeth Marirea Ward said that all of the evening's entertainment will benefit the children and families that use The Family Centre.
"We are targetting $100,000 as our goal will be allocated to our Caring for Families Programmes which are the core services of The Family Centre," she explained.
"The Family Centre aims to facilitate the strengthening of communities in Bermuda by providing community-based services to help families of at-risk children and youth build the skills and capacity they require to achieve and sustain stability."
The concept for the theme of this fundraiser was put together by the committee, explained Ms Ward.
"We have done various other themes in the past and knew there was a terrific local group that did a 'British Invasion' show which is spectacular," she explained.
"The group is managed by David Fitzsimmons and all the lighting et cetera is done by his brother Barry Fitzsimmons of Great Sound.
At the cocktail reception, Secret Po-Po, which is another local group, will provide the entertainment.
During dinner Ms Ward said that the Ben Lusher Trio will be providing the music.
"The actual show starts around 9.30 p.m. followed by the Silent Auction and Raffle at 11 p.m.," she said.
"Dancing will follow until 1 a.m., featuring a little bit of Motown and R&B."
The other fun element to the evening is that guests are being encouraged to wear clothing from that era," she said. "I dare say the Barn and the Salvation Army have been raided this week — white go-go boots and polyester white slacks are not easy to come by these days."
The show, The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour, will encompass music from across the era of the Beatles, which is quite diverse.
"In addition music from The Rolling Stones will be featured as well as music from Queen, Spencer Davis Group, The Clash and Modern English.
"All performances are live throughout the evening and all of the talent is local."
The silent auction will feature a host of items from artwork to vacations. "There will be over 30 Silent Action Prizes," explained Ms Ward.
"To name a few; a two hour jet ski tour for six people, tickets for two to London, plus a one week stay in Cumbria at a B&B as well as entrance to three stately homes...
"There will also be a wine fridge with wine and a wine tasting for 20 people.
A ladies pampering package – and several spectacular large surprise items!"
There will also be raffle prizes.
The evening commences with cocktails at 7 p.m. in the lobby area outside the Mid Ocean Amphitheatre.
Tickets are $250, or $2,500 per table of ten, e-mail or telephone Karl Lupson on klupson[at]biisl.com.
