PURE MAGIC
The Prospect Primary School Show Choir has recently returned from an exciting five-day trip where they performed and recorded at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
The 33-member Prospect Primary School Show Choir set out on an adventure of a lifetime by performing at the Disney's Galaxy Theatre.
Kenneth Young, age 10, P6, said: "I learned a lot and I experienced more than I had ever experienced before."
They also took part in workshops, which included voice-over techniques and a recording session with Disney vocal coach, Jenny, who was responsible for the 'Beauty and the Beast' track.
The choir got the chance to go through the efforts of their teachers, who realised the potential of the group and wanted to take them to the next level.
Choir director Lindsey Berthiaume contacted the Disney Magic Music Days, a performing arts programme at Disney World, which offers young people the opportunity to challenge themselves to achieve performance excellence at an unparalleled performance venue.
Mrs. Berthiaume said the Show Choir had to put together an audition package consisting of pictures of the members in their choir attire, a videotape of the choir performing two to three styles of songs, plus choreography for each style.
The students and their chaperones lodged at the Port Orleans Riverside Resort.
During their visit they got the opportunity to attend the Cirque de Soleil 'La Nouba' show.
Some of the students said that the experience had influenced them to consider working at Disney World or in the field of entertainment. "I would love to work at Disney World and be a tour guide or work in animation," said Mikhail Ming-Woodley, age ten, P6.
Keyshé Robinson, age 10, P6, said: "I would like to be and animator or perform in a movie like 'High School Musical II'."
One of highlights of the choir was recording voice-overs they all got the opportunity to perform as Ariel from 'The Little Mermaid' singing 'Part of Your World'.
Llineiko Millett, age nine, P5, said: "My favourite part of the trip was in the airport in New York. We met LL Cool J (pictured) and got to take a picture with him."
For many of the students this was the first time they ever flew on an airplane. "I just thought of it like a car ride.
"It was a little bumpy but I was sitting next to the same people on all the flights and we were playing cards so I was OK," said Twylia Ebbin-Wilson, age ten, P6.
The choir set out on February 27 and performed at total of 10 songs and were praised by Disney staff and passersby for how well behaved they were. Welcome back, Prospect Primary Show Choir!
