Scintillating Sybil ... and company
Sybil's Pussy Cat Dream Dolls was a joy to behold.
The show featured seven female impersonators, three from Bermuda, while the other four were from overseas.
The female impersonators included Miss Mirkala Crystal, Miss Kika Couture, and Miss Domanique Shappelle, better known as The French Doll. Locally there was Joseph (Joe) Ascento aka Miss Summer Isis, Dean Minors also known as Miss Daffodil Daisy, and Ms Sybil Barrington aka Mark Anderson.
Also gracing the stage was Rochelle Simons Lecomte. She was the only one to sing and did she sing, she performed her rendition of the Supremes' 'River Deep Mountain High', and Barbra Streisand's 'People'.
Mirkala Crystal, Kika Couture and Domanique Shappelle all carried off their acts with professionalism and aplomb.
The theme throughout the night was based on the movie and stage play 'Dream Girls', with Miss Sybil Barrington as the character Effie.
The audience was also treated to Domanique Shappelle, in the most fabulous dresses ever, she had a gold floor length number that showed just about every curve imaginable, while her others included a white halter-styled hip-hugging sheath. Many of her other frocks were of the same very elaborate scale.
Miss Barrington had the crowds laughing with her comedy act, as she spoke about Middle Town versus other more aesthetically pleasing neighbourhoods. "I live for drama, but not that sort of drama, I don't need!" she said.
Also performing were the Two Fools – Nadanja Bailey and Jahrizno Simmons – who offered renditions of Michael Jackson and (the late) James Brown. Hilarious, is about the only word that I can use to describe their antics.
They both did excellent renditions of the two, with Mr. Bailey carrying off the soft voice and Moon Walk of Michael Jackson with ease, while Mr. Simmons was chatting in the quick talking fashion of the late great – donned in a sky blue suit with the American flag across his vest. Miss Shappelle was perfect in her little red feathered and beaded number as she performed to 'Nookie Real Good'.
Some of the other songs included 'I Am Changing', and the Dream Girls' song 'And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going', while the second half opened with 'One Night Only', 'Wind Ya Body Up' and 'Don't Stop the Music'.
The Saturday early show was compact, did not begin too late and offered up many talented individuals.
