Top American violin coach here for weekend workshops and concert

Professor Sally O'Reilly, one of America's most eminent violin coaches, will be in Bermuda this weekend with four of her top students to conduct workshops for advanced students of the Bermuda School of Music, at the conclusion of which the visiting musicians will present 'An Evening of Violin Virtuosity' on Saturday at Wesley Methodist Church in Hamilton, beginning at 7 p.m.

Zachary Saathoff, LaTannia Ellerby, Jenny Berg and Rolf Hess, who are pursuing violin studies at the University of Minnesota School of Music where Ms O'Reilly is the violin professor, will present a programme of dynamic, upbeat showpieces by Glazunov, Mendelssohn, Mozart and Sibelius.

"Professor O'Reilly only teaches the crême de la crême of violin students, who will go on to play in top orchestras or pursue solo careers," Chas Arnold, of the Bermuda School of Music, said.

Indeed, she is known throughout the music world as a soloist, chamber musician, pedagogue and recording artist, and her former students are members of the world's major orchestras.

They also hold prominent teaching positions throughout the US, Asia and Australia, and their ranks include first-prize winners in numerous international competitions.

Tickets for Saturday's concert (adults $30, students $15) are available at the Bermuda School of Music, Pulp and Circumstance, and will also be sold at the door.
