36 short years!

Gloria Lightbourne, who has worked for the Bermuda Drug Company for the past 36 years, has come to see it as a second home, a place where she belongs.

According to Mrs. Lightbourne, she was hired by John Gibson Young at a tender age, to work behind the cosmetics counter. At the time, she explained, the store was in its former location at the corner of Reid and Queen Streets, where Aston & Gunn is now. When the Phoenix Drug Store moved to Reid Hall in 1990, she said she was put to work as a cashier before she was moved behind the fudge counter near the store entrance. "I've seen staff come and go and seen the company grow as well. I've been here a long time and I really enjoy it.'' Before the recent changes, Mrs. Lightbourne said, space in the store was very limited. And as she has now been moved to work on the main floor, with the closure of the fudge counter, the change is marvelous. "It's much more spacious now, the staff and customers have much more room to walk around the store,'' she said. PHOTO The old Phoenix Building in 1903 PHOENIX BUSINESS BUC
