About-turn on CCTV
cameras to be placed on Hamilton's notorious Court Street.
The clubland bosses -- originally opposed to the CCTV plan -- have changed their minds, according to North Hamilton Business Association spokesman Carvel VanPutten.
Mr. VanPutten also said the group supported calls to move Hamilton Police station to Court Street at a special public meeting for the residents of northeast Hamilton last night.
And the 100-strong crowd which attended the event formed a new community group to represent their interests before the new City Plan is drawn up.
Crime-conscious residents voiced their fears about public safety, calling for better lighting -- particularly on Court Street.
They also backed calls to extend the CCTV plan, as 30 cameras are already being lined up for central Hamilton by October, in a $1.25 million project.
Residents at the meeting also said they wanted piped water, wider sidewalks and better parking facilities.
