Cambridge Beaches chef Pierre Riou, who was seriously hurt in a road accident last month, is improving rapidly in a US hospital.

A spokesman for the John Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, said Mr. Riou's condition was stable but he had made a steady recovery. She added the chef was now able to move around with help but would require a lengthy period of rehabilitation.

Frenchman Mr. Riou, 21, suffered serious internal injuries as well as broken legs and wrists after the accident, which involved his livery cycle and a taxi, on Middle Road, in Paget.

POLICE UNCOVER EXPLOSIVE CACHE CRM Police uncover explosive cache Police have discovered a stash of Molotov cocktails stored in a secret hideaway in Warwick. The 28 homemade bombs were recovered in a box and a bucket on Khyber Pass, Warwick, after Police received a tip-off on Friday evening. Police revealed a similar batch of bombs was discovered in the same area Thursday.

PAGET DISCONNECTED AC Paget disconnected Paget residents had their telephones disconnected after a tractor accidently ripped down cables near the Paget Primary School.

The accident happened just after 3 p.m. when the tractor, owned by the Government Parks Department, exited the school premises. The tractor's boom had not been lowered and tore into telephone and television cable wires as the driver drove off.

The wires landed on a passing taxi, causing minor damage to the bonnet. Belco and Cablevision crews attended the scene and were eventually able to restore the services.

POLICE SEEK HELP ON BREAK AND ENTERS CRM Police seek help on break and enters Police are appealing for witnesses following a spate of petty crimes last week.

Paw Paws restaurant, Warwick, was broken into in the early hours of Friday morning. Thieves made off with the previous day's takings and a set of keys.

A sneak thief got away with several items of jewellery after breaking into house on North Shore, Devonshire on Thursday night. The value of the jewellery is not yet known.

At about the same time thieves struck at Granny MC's kitchen at the Ex-Artillary Men's Association in Pembroke. Stolen were 30 compact discs and various foodstuffs.

And another jewellery thief struck on Saturday in a daylight raid on a house in Bishop Spencer Road, Pembroke.

Stolen were three gold chains, a rhinestone necklace, a gold bracelet with eight charms, five loose charms and gold earrings.

BUSY PICKPOCKETS CRM Busy pickpockets A waiter claims he was the victim of a pickpocket on Saturday morning. The waiter was working at a Front Street restaurant when his wallet, containing a large amount of cash and credit cards, was taken from the rear pocket of his pants.

And a visitor told Police a similar story; he had his wallet stolen while out at a nightclub on Parliament Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Meanwhile a man will appear in Plea Court Wednesday charged with stealing a wallet which was left on the counter of a Pembroke restaurant.
