Virginia Beach Boardwalk Show, one of the most prestigious in the US.

Mr. Elmer Midgett says only 350 artists from around the world are invited to take part in the annual exhibition. Stretching along the sea-front for the length of about 15 city blocks, the open-air art show is also one of the largest and features paintings and sculptures.

The Boardwalk Show, which takes place in June, has adopted a very practical method of awarding prizes. The works of art selected are then purchased and placed in the multi-million dollar museum nearby.

Mr. Midgett, who has had two solo shows at Heritage House gallery and a joint show with Sheilagh Head at the Windjammer Gallery, has also been a member of the group of artists who present a group exhibition every two years under the name of "Growing'' at the Society of Arts Gallery at City Hall.

He started his career as a stained glass artist and still holds workshops in that ancient craft for Society members.
