Ms Julie Hastings-Smith, who recently took over as curator at the Dockyard venue says the show reflects the Arts Centre's aim in promoting innovative artists and to encourage young talent in Bermuda.

"We have asked Diana Amos and her students at the Bermuda College to also take part in the show. These particular students have only been working on life studies for this past term, so we hope it has been a valuable and educational experience for them,'' she says.

Noting that the study of figure drawing provides one of the most basic tools for art students, Ms Hastings-Smith says that the Exhibition Committee is grateful to the Bermuda Society of Arts which has been holding life drawing sessions, "without which a lot of the work on show would not have been possible.'' Also on show for the first time will be the first two sculptures for the Arts Centre's new Sculpture Garden outside the gallery. Both by Will Collieson, they will be on loan from his recent show, `Works'.

"We have other artists who are anxious to contribute work but are prevented from doing so by lack of funds. We would love to hear from anyone who would like to be involved in this exciting project which will certainly go a long way toward the beautification of our gallery area at Dockyard,'' says Ms Hastings-Smith.

Ms Ruth Thomas will officially open `The Nude' exhibition on Sunday at 4 p.m.

ON SHOW -- Helen Whight's painting of Sitting Man and two sculptures by Chesley Trott.
