"There are numerous employment opportunities at our bank,'' advised Ms.

DeSilva. "Most students when imagining careers in the bank, think of customer service associates (or tellers as they were formerly known) or accountants.

Although the bank provides opportunities in both of these areas, there is a variety of other occupations such as: investments, trading, credit marketing, human resources and information systems.

"The Bank of Butterfield recognises the need to prepare young Bermudians to become successful business people,'' explained Ms DeSilva. This commitment is reflected in three tailor-designed programmes: Summer Employment Cooperative Programme Management Trainee Programme.

Generally, most positions within the bank require a university or college degree. However, there are opportunities for those with a high school diploma or a certificate from Bermuda College. All positions require experience with personal computers.

The Bank of Butterfield encourages the professional development of staff by supporting professional designations and job-related courses offered locally or overseas. Training is also provided internally by the Bank's Training Department.

When Ms DeSilva was asked for her words of wisdom to students, she responded: "Education is vital in today's career world. When students couple education with meaningful work experience they create a better chance for career success.'' Interested students should contact Ms DeSilva by calling: 295-1111.
