Birthday honours are handed out

Governor Lord Waddington handed out the awards in a special ceremony at Government House on Wednesday night attended by Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan, other dignitaries and relatives and friends of the recipients.
Bermuda National Trust president Mrs. Patsy Phillips, who was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), received her award from the Queen at Buckingham Palace earlier this month.
But the following accepted the Queen's Certificate and Badge of Honour from Lord Waddington: Mr. Edward (Teddy) Chapman JP who has been a member of the Public Transportation Board since 1977 and chairman for the past 10 years; Mrs. Ann Dunstan who was the first female Anglican church warden on the Island; Mr. Sydney Greet, local and international yachtsman, who has been involved in major sailing competitions for around 25 years; Mrs. Janet Hunter Outerbridge who has been involved in Guiding for more than 25 years, as a guide leader and district commissioner; Miss Dulcie Frith Roe who has served in education for around 60 years and is a past secretary of the Teachers Association; Miss Judy Siddle who is president of Bermuda Ladies Hockey Association and former chairman of the Sports Development Council; and Capt. Edward Williams who is a veteran sailor, sailboat charter operator, taxi driver and expert on Bermudian history, architecture and customs.
Lord Waddington also presented Colonial Police Medals to Bermuda's Reserve Constabulary Commandant Capt. John Moore, retired Chief Inspector Mr. Dennis Brookes, and coordinator of Security Services within the Civil Service Mr.
John Barry Smith, who is also a former chief inspector.
A number of long service and good conduct medals were also awarded to Police and Bermuda Regiment officers.
