CARE calls for a health risk probe
Emissions (CARE), said while the organisation was very supportive of the Ministry and Mr. Choquette's visit, they also wanted a doctor brought to the Island to study and explain the health risks of the towers. And he urged Government to make all of the results of the current tests public. He said: "CARE is not against technology, but we say let's stop putting up new towers, let's have shared towers, and lets put them higher up, so they are away from people's homes and schools. "Mr. Choquette is a technician -- he does readings. Our concern is about the health risks of this type of radiation. We say bring doctors here to do studies, as well as getting Mr. Choquette here to take readings.'' But Mr. Thomson also queried why Government was using FCC standards to monitor Bermuda, when Britain and members of the European Union had taken a much stricter approach.
"Why are we choosing to follow the US. The FCC guidelines are the weakest in the world.'' Mr. Thomson urged residents, if they had concerns about a certain area, to call the Ministry and ask him to visit.
