Caribeen comedian to perform at City Hall
Keens-Douglas will be in Bermuda later this month to give two special performances at the invitation of the local West Indian Association.
Best known as Tim Tim the Storyteller, Mr. Keens-Douglas is a household name throughout the English-speaking Caribbean islands and among West Indians living outside the region.
The West Indian Association's Folk Singers will back up Mr. Keens-Douglas' performances at the Hamilton City Hall on May 18 and 19.
In a recent press release, the Association said it was "only fitting'' that a man who embodies their Caribbean heritage (a heritage shared with many Bermudians) performs here during Heritage Month.
"(His) narrative poetry, his prose, and his storytelling record the fast-changing Caribbean lifestyles, weaving together popular folklore and beliefs, preserving many of those old traditions that are slowly being lost,'' it said.
This "writer, poet, dramatist, storyteller and entertainer rolled into one'' has performed at festivals worldwide and has been featured on British, Canadian and American radio and television.
He has worked with such top performers as the king of calypso Mighty Sparrow, jazz saxophonist Oliver Lake, Jamaican queen of dialect Louise Bennett and American storyteller Alice McGill.
The Trinidadian has also published six volumes of his work and recorded 12 albums and cassettes.
Tickets ($20) go on sale on Monday at the City Hall Box office, which will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily.
COMING SOON -- Well-known Trinidadian entertainer Paul Keens-Douglas will be performing at City Hall later this month.
