Chinese New Year's bash to benefit Sunshine League

All for charity: The Zodiac team have decided to give you the Chinese New Years party where having fun can assist others. Pictured are team members Deforest Evans, Janson Cross, Stephen Squire and Vince Williams-Savery.

If you missed out or simply did not feel like being bothered with New Year's Eve, Zodiac Inc. is giving you another opportunity to shake a leg.

The Zodiac New Year's Charity Gala 2008 takes place on Saturday night at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

But organiser Janson Cross said it was not "just" another party, as funds raised from the event will be used to help children in care.

"The proceeds for the event will be in aid of the Sunshine League Children's Home," said Mr. Cross.

"In April, it will be a good two years of promoting events, so this year we thought we can do more to help the community. To be a little more specific — we are looking to raise money for some of the children at the Home so that they can afford to go on some upcoming educational trips."

Many of the children have never left the Island, he added.

"So we thought we would help them out because getting off 'the rock' helps you to expand your mind past little old Bermy," said Mr. Cross.

"It will also let them know that there are so many opportunities out there and that people do care."

Heading back to the party info, which will help make the educational trip a reality, Mr. Cross said he has some great DJs spinning the tunes.

"We have some of Bermuda's hottest DJs in Jugglin J, Mikey B and DJ Kaos.

"We also have a great venue in the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and are going to have some great drink specials (Pama) courtesy of Goslings."

The theme of the event is the Chinese New Year, which actually occurred yesterday.

"So we decided to go with an Asian theme," he said.

"The decoration will be Asian influenced and the colour scheme will be red, gold and black.

"The reason why we decided with the Chinese New Year was that since we are Zodiac Inc. we decided to have our party on the Chinese/Zodiac New Year, rather than have it on December 31."

The dress code for the event is semi-formal.

"We are giving people the chance of winning $1,075 courtesy of Zodiac Inc. and Hott 107.5," he added. "If you purchase your tickets in advance, then you will be eligible to win. The draw will happen on Hott 107.5 on February 8. "

Limited advance tickets will be sold, so you will have a good chance to win the money and you know Bermudians don't buy tickets in advance, they like to wait for the last minute, so your chances are really good.

"Buy your whole crew tickets, and increase your chances," he said.

Tickets $40, are available from Zodiac members and at Hott 107.5 in the Union Building (next to Liberty Theatre).

This is a 25 and over event.

Special room rates are available at $159 plus taxes.
