Clark brings `NewFolk' to town
with her distinctive brand of `NewFolk''.
Clark -- a 16-year-veteran of the road -- will showcase her latest album for the Spring Folk Festival of the Bermuda Folk Club tomorrow.
Following hard on the heels of folk heroes Fairport Convention, Clark is the latest big name to land on Bermuda's shores.
Her fourth and newest album, A Light for Liza (Outer Green Records), sees Clark progressing along a well-travelled track instead of taking a different direction -- but still moving ahead.
Her up close and personal approach to songwriting is sure to go down a storm in the intimate setting of the Folk Club's Old Colony Club venue.
She said: "I can't think of a better high than sharing the stories and the songs with a good audience -- it's the best.'' And she added: "It's my third performance in Bermuda since 1993 -- I'm starting to feel like I'm part of the family.'' The singer/guitarist, who will be appearing mostly solo in Bermuda -- although a local bassist may join her on some songs -- said a major difference this time was the influence of her band on the final cut of the album.
She explained: "We worked in my living room and everybody helped to flesh out the songs.
"It began with my guitar and voice and we created an energy -- then we went to the studio.'' She added: "Most of the instrumentation was recorded live and it's really added a nice energy to the overall feel of the cut.'' Anni Clark, Bermuda Folk Club, Old Colony Club, Trott Road, Hamilton, Tonight.
