from two women senators yesterday.

Her work organising the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the suffragist movement rather than her recent Queen's Honour made her the winning candidate, Sen. Yvette Swan (UBP) said.

Sen. Swan also commended Mrs. Joy Preece Flood and Mrs. Moya Boyd, selected by the Womens' Advisory Counsel as winners of the Crystal awards, for their contribution to the quality of life of women.

Mrs. Flood provided nursery school care for 39 years while Mrs. Boyd helped change rape laws.

Sen. Neletha Butterfield (PLP) added that good nursery care meant women could return to the workplace knowing their children were in good hands.

Nine newly qualified accountants were singled out for praise by Sen. Terry Lister for recently passing their CPA examinations.

They are: Sue Anderson, Jaimie Cornes, Jeremy Cox, Marchelle Douglas, Jennifer Ingham, Edith "Angie'' Parris, Leslie Pooley, Jonathan Reiss and Nicolette Riess.

Sen. Lister said he was pleased to note this brought the total number of newly qualified Bermudian accountants to 21 in a year.

Government Senate Leader the Hon. Gerald Simons said the growing number of Bermudian professionals was a reflection of the education system.

He praised the Institute of Chartered Accountants for the "outstanding results''.
