Display features information on lawn, golf course care

Is your lawn being taken over by chinch bugs and weeds and are you interested in maintaining a healthy lawn? Perhaps you are interested in a career in the golf course industry? A special exhibit planned as part of the annual Agricultural Exhibition next week is guaranteed to answer all of your questions.

A "Turfgrass/Golf Course Operations'' display will be set up in the Plant Protection Lab at the department of Agriculture and Fisheries in Botanical Gardens.

People who enjoy working with nature, protecting and enhancing the environment, travelling and who consider golf courses as an important part of Bermuda's appeal to tourists, will be able to see what career opportunities exist in the golf course industry.

Information on education, financial assistance and training programmes that the department offers will also be available. Gardeners will be able to learn about insects that affect Bermuda lawns and turf, from chinch bug to nematodes. They can also get information on lawn diseases, controlling weeds on lawns and turfs see displays of warm and cool season turf grasses.

Information will also be available on Bermuda grass, Zoysia and St. Augustine grass.

The Agricultural Exhibition will be held in the Botanical Gardens on April 23, 24 and 25.
