Educator establishes scholarship

To be eligible for the Gina Tucker Scholarship, students must be admitted to the degree programme and in the process of completing a major in mathematics, English or sociology.

Applicants need to demonstrate both leadership skills and a financial need as certified by the Dean of Students. The amount of the award will be $1,000.

Dr. Gina Tucker, who has established the scholarship in her name, is an education officer and Curriculum Coordinator with the Ministry of Education.

For seven years, she taught at West Pembroke Primary School. She then spent two years as an assistant teaching instructor at the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Columbia State University.

President of Bermuda College Dr. George L. Cook said: "Bermuda College is very proud that Dr. Tucker has seen fit to donate this scholarship. Dr. Tucker has made education her life's work and, through this award, will help other Bermudians to achieve their educational goals.
