Years ago, it was once common place for mothers to either pick their children up from school or greet them at the front door with a hug and a plate full of cookies and a glass of milk.

But with today's economic environment, most households now require two-incomes to `make ends meet', thus sending mothers out into the work world.

This often means that neither parent is available to collect their children after school which creates a difficult dilemma -- what to do with your child once the school day is finished.

The Department of Youth Sport and Recreation runs a popular After School Programme where school-age children can receive supervised care once the last daily lesson has been learned.

During the 2 1/2 to 3 hour programme, children take part in activities ranging from art to sport to dance.

Parents must collect their children from their After School Programme by 5.45 p.m., which gives them plenty of time to tie-up any loose ends at work.

In case you have not yet registered your child up, here are the contact numbers for the various locations for the After School Programme: Elliot 236-3347; Francis Patton 293-4283; Harrington Sound 293-0434; Heron Bay 238-3621; Northlands 292-1680; Paget Primary 236-4039; Port Royal 238-2039; Prospect 295-9930; Purvis 236-3244; Somerset 234-4139; Victor Scott 292-9341; West Pembroke 295-5776; Sandys Community Centre 234-1275; St. George's Community Centre 297-1754; and The Centre 292-1343.
