Expert offers African lecture

and audience participation when she presents a lecture entitled "Revealing Africa'' on Monday evening.

The Bermuda National Gallery is sponsoring the visit of Ms E. Selean Holmes in connection with its major exhibition, "Secrecy: African Art that Conceals and Reveals'', which has just opened for a three-month run.

The talk will provide a brief overview of African history and, says Ms Holmes, "will confront and correct some of the stereotypical ideas that many people have about Africa and Africans''.

Ms Holmes, who has family connections in Bermuda and is a regular visitor to the Island, is the Ethnic Programmes Administrator at The Cincinnati Historical Society.

The lecture is the first in a series of three related events that will take place in conjunction with the African exhibition.

Monday's presentation takes place at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club in Paget, starting at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are available from the Bermuda National Gallery at $10 ($5 for members).
